eco-shipping
As an online computer store, one of our biggest direct impacts on the environment comes from shipping products all across the country. Shipping requires transportation. Transportation uses fuel. Fuel uses energy which usually means pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
We're doing what we can to minimize the effect our shipping has on the environment.
Where possible, we ship our products to you directly from the manufacturer. This saves the product two extra trips and the fuel that goes with it: from the manufacturer to the wholesaler, and from the wholesaler to us.
When that's not possible, we ship to you directly from our wholesalers. This saves a trip from the wholesaler to us. It also takes advantage of the extensive network of strategically located warehouses our wholesalers have. The product will be shipped to you from the closest possible warehouse, minimizing both the fuel use and the shipping time.
What this sometimes means is that you'll get shipments coming to you in more than one box. Boxes can be reused and recycled. We feel the savings in shipping more than makes up for the occasional extra box.
Carbonfree TM Shipping
No matter what we do to minimize the impact of shipping products to you, it will still have an effect. So, to help balance out the CO2 (carbon dioxide) we produce, we have teamed up with Carbonfund.org to provide Carbonfree TM Shipping.
We provide information to Carbonfund.org on our shipping activities. (No personal information, just generalities like weight, distance, and method of shipping.) They tell us how much CO2 we've generated.
We then give money to Carbonfund.org for investment in projects like renewable energy, energy efficiency, and planting trees. These projects help reduce CO2 emissions by an equivalent amount, thus offsetting the effect of shipping products to you.
